What a free bonus stack is actually worth
How to price a digital guide, and why "worth $297" means very little.
By The Steady Habit Desk · September 2026
Almost every supplement bundle in this category arrives with a stack of free digital guides and a stated value attached. The number is nearly always large and nearly always meaningless. Here is how to think about it without being cynical or credulous.
The marginal cost is zero
A digital file costs the seller nothing to duplicate. Whether they give it to one buyer or a hundred thousand, the cost is the same. That is precisely why bonuses are bundled so freely — they add perceived value to an offer without adding a cent to the cost of goods.
This is not a scam. It is just an offer-construction technique, and understanding it stops the stated value doing work it has not earned.
Where the stated value comes from
Usually nowhere verifiable. "Worth $297" typically means someone assigned a plausible retail price to each item and added them up. Since none of the items has ever been sold separately at that price, the total describes an intention rather than a market.
How to value one honestly
- Would you have searched for it? If the answer is no, its value to you is close to zero regardless of the sticker.
- Is it related to what you bought? A usage guide for the product itself is genuinely useful. A skincare guide bundled with a metabolism formula is filler.
- Does it arrive automatically? A bonus that needs claiming through a separate form is a bonus a good number of buyers never receive.
The rule worth keeping
Let a bonus stack break a tie between two bundles you were already weighing. Never let it decide the bundle size. If the guides are what push you from three bottles to six, the bundle was not right for you at three and the free files have not changed that.
